I'd like to test some conversion tools with these files. Does it still rely on the Quicktime package by Apple being installed ?Īre there freely available tools to mux, demux and edit MXF files, as there are for Quicktime, MP4 and MKV files ?Ĭan anyone provide me with or point me towards sample files of DNxHD and DNxHR in a mxf OP1a wrapper, and goPro cineform ? They all bring their own decoders, except Protools. They'll usually be decoded by anything but Apples Quicktime player or library, whether that's Reaper or any of the modern video editor. I deal with finished or almost finished products and almost always get Quicktime files. I've yet to receive something like that for dubbing or post production, so I'm curious as to the motivation of requiring support for files like this in Reaper. MXF files seem like an in-house work-in-progress type of format. I've heard some folks discuss MXF files when using Protools and Avid Media Composer, but that's about it. What purpose do those codecs fulfill exactly ? When are they used ? In audio post production ?
